Ric Wailes

I joined US Navy June 17, 1968, and after four sea commands and several shore commands with the Naval Reserve, I retired in 1989 with 21 years active service, as Storekeeper First Class (SK1/E-6).
I applied to and was accepted to the University of Utah in August 1991, still not sure what I want to be when I grew up.
I Graduated in 1994 with BS in Human Development and Family Studies, and a Minor in Native American Studies.
I was accepted into the Graduate School of Social Work the same year and received my Master of Social Work in June 1996.
I worked for Professional Services Corp (PSC) in Ogden and Holladay as a Chemical Addictions, Domestic Violence Therapist and First Offender DUI Educational Class instructor.
I ran the PSC program in Holladay and had a private practice with Dr. Wilfred Higashi of the Holladay Family and Child Guidance Clinic, who always introduced me as his "partner". while I had my private practice there. I started out working for the Salt Lake VA hospital as a Dialysis Social Worker while I worked on my LCSW. I held a position with Magellan Behavioral Health, and Aetna Behavioral Health as a Senior Clinical Care-Manager reviewing substance inpatient treatment. As part of my private practice, I obtained certification as a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) and did DOT evaluations, Primarily for the Union Pacific Railroad.

I married my wife Kathe in August 1998 while on a fishing trip to Missoula MT. We have 5 children and 12 Grandchildren.
I retired the second time in June 2011. Since then Kathe and I have traveled to Scotland, England and Wales twice, done a lot of fishing and riding motorcycles together.
In May of 2019, we will be visiting Melbourne Australia for a few days.
