Our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016 after a valiant fight waiting for a new heart. During his long stay at the hospital, many of the doctors mentioned that he had one of the largest hearts they had ever seen. Those that have been a recipient of Barney's love, kindness, service, and friendship over his 66 years, are already well aware of his oversized heart. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy of optimism, humor, testimony, and love will be carried on by all who knew him.
Barney loved spending time enjoying God's creations, and many lessons were taught casting a line into Yellowstone Lake or watching a sun set behind the red rocks of Lake Powell. His proverbial glass in life was always half-full. Because of his good cheer and kind soul, he always thought the best of people. He taught that the difference between a stranger and a friend is merely a short conversation, and because of that, he made friends with everyone everywhere he went.
Barney was a life-long faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had many fond memories and dear friends from his time spent serving in the Southwest British Mission. While he has held many church callings over the years, he particularly loved working with the young single adults in the University 40th Ward. He also honorably served his country in the Air National Guard.
Barney was born in Salt Lake City on September 6, 1950 and grew up in Holladay, Utah. When he was eighteen, a fifteen-year-old girl moved into his neighborhood. Upon seeing her, he openly declared that he was going to marry her one day. True to his word, five years later, on May 18, 1973 he was sealed to his first love, Cozette Frampton in the Salt Lake Temple and together they have five children: Tyler (Jenni) Carlson, Dani (Chad) Lassiter, Miki (Jonathan) Eberhardt, Owen (Taralee) Carlson, and Alex (Lena) Carlson. Preceded in death by his dad Joseph, in-laws Dan & Berylene Frampton, and brother Matt. He is survived by his wife, their children, and soon-to-be 17 grandchildren along with his mother Barbara, and siblings Charlene & Corey.
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to his entire medical team at the Heart & Lung Center of IMC who became part of our family as they cared for Barney with expertise, kindness, and love.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 30, at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family can also visit Tuesday, November 29 from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. before the service. All will be held at the Cottonwood Creek Stake Center on 1535 East Creek Road. Interment at Holladay Memorial Cemetery.
