Bob Strout

Robert D. Strout
1949~2015
Robert D. Strout, born November 19, 1949 died January 23, 2015 of heart failure. He was the son of the late Robert Louis and Arlie Sophia Whitaker Strout. Bob grew up in Holladay, UT and some of the best days of his life were spent roaming the wilds of Holladay on his horse, BB gun in hand and his dog by his side. He graduated from Olympus High School, attended Westminster College and the University of Utah, where he affiliated with Beta Theta Pi. Bob married Jessica "Jinx" Rytting in September of 1972; they were married for 42 happy, crazy, wonderful years. They had three children, Carolyn Suzanne "Carrie" Peterson, Bryan William, and Nathaniel Louis (deceased).
Bob had a distinguished career in sales and management in the telecommunications industry. He started with Motorola, becoming one of the youngest regional managers in the company. He then joined Skaggs Telecommunications Services and Centro. As a Vice President of Sales at Centro he successfully negotiated and completed one of the first mobile sports broadcasting units for NBC Sports. He then joined a Canadian telecommunications company Le Blanc/Radian, while with them he brought together the major television stations in Utah to build the first HDTV towers on Farnsworth Peak. He left the telecommunications industry and joined Mountain West Truck Center, selling semi-trucks to drivers all over the country.
Bob grew up hunting and fishing with his family. His happiest days were spent in Idaho on the 6S Ranch, hunting pheasants and ducks. He loved fishing at Flaming Gorge and Strawberry Reservoirs and riding his horse, Son of A $*%#. Because of his love for the outdoors he became involved with Ducks Unlimited. He chaired many a DU dinner, some of which are still considered legendary events and will never be duplicated. He was State Chairman of Ducks Unlimited from 1993-1995.
An avid supporter of the University of Utah, he was a member of Crimson Club from its beginning. He never lost faith in his "Utes", even when a football bet went the wrong way.
Bob loved good Cashmere, good single malt Scotch and good cards, especially when they added up to 21. Most importantly he loved his family and friends. All Bob asked of you was that you be honest and fair with him, if you needed anything, he was there to help.
The family would like to thank Dr. Karen Hill-Garrett for her diligent help in trying to keep Bob healthy. Thank you to Deb Davis for always being there to administer his heart tests. We also appreciate his nurse, Paul, and the staff at IMC for their compassionate care.  Bob is survived by his wife, Jinx, children Carrie and Bryan, his grandchildren, Jessie Bliss and Emma Saylor Peterson, son-in-law Cash Peterson; his chocolate Lab, Bubba; sister Karen (Scott) Ogden, brother Neil (Carol) Olsen; sister Charlene (Earl) Colton and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at St James Episcopal Church, 7486 S Union Park Boulevard Midvale UT at 2:00 pm. The family will greet friends from 1:00 pm-1:45 pm. Following the service, a celebration of Bob's life will be held from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm at Primo Restaurant, 4669 S Highland Dr. Holladay, UT.
In lieu of flowers please donate in Bob's name to Ducks Unlimited (www.ducks.org) or the Kostopulos Dream Foundation (www.campk.org).

For all of us who knew Bob and miss him immensely, please know that the next best Titan -  his lovely bride Jinx (and my cousin) -  will be coming along with me for the Saturday night fun. See you there!
